After a fun filled month bouncing around the San Juan Islands, Amy, Zoe and I headed for Port Angeles. It's a good staging port for our 1st big offshore leg of our adventure. We had lots of shopping to do, a bit of boat prep, including climbing the mast to check the rig, among other various tasks that needed doing.
We were blessed with the company of two more sets of friends coming to visit us all the way up in Port Angeles to help see us off. Sam & Dawn, along with their friend Dan, had driven up from Bremerton not only to visit, but Dawn was also going to lend a hand crewing with us for the next 400 miles down the coast to Coos Bay, Oregon. We are very glad to have her on our 1st offshore passage on Lorien.
Also in attendance was our friends visiting from Minnesota who were already on a trip to Washington during this time. They had carved time out from their vacation to include a pit stop in Port Angeles not only to see us off, but to deliver the mother of all offshore medical kits. Chris & Kim both work at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and were gracious enough to help piece together a great med kit for Lorien and her adventures to come. We were also excited to finally meet their 5 month old son, Jack, for the 1st time!
From Port Angeles, we set sail for Neah Bay, a protected anchorage on the very NW tip of the Olympic Peninsula to wait a couple days for favorable weather before heading off into the open waters of the North Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, this already isolated community was completely off limits to us, so we have to stay on the boat the whole time.
